[net.music] Radio Station Information Needed

54326jj@hou2f.UUCP (J.JOHNSON) (08/20/85)

A friend of mine moved to Miami, Florida last
summer and she has not yet found a decent
radio station to listen to. She likes your
standard rock music; I mentioned to her that
maybe there are some college stations that
would play some halfway decent music.

Can anyone out there in net.music land help me
help her out and let me know if there are any
good radio stations that do exist in the Miami area?
Any information would be greatly appreciated; you
can respond by e-mail or to net.music.

Thanks in advance!

Forget it. Move to the West coast. . .

Seriously, I think the problem is that about 70 % of the population
there is Spanish speaking, ergo, lots of Spanish programmed stations (if
you don't believe this, consider that WLTV, channel 22, whips the NBC,
ABC, and CBS affiliates. . .it's an SIN affiliate (Spanish ?? Network)
in every major catagory, including 5 of the top 10 prime time shows !!!!!

Also, about half of the stations down there are for sale or have
been recently sold, so there is hope. If it is standard rock-n-roll CHR
she wants, there is always WINK-FM Fort Myers (96.9).

WHYI (Fort Lauderdale) (101.1??) is your usual CHR dreck. It's been
a while, and the drive down I-75 is about as poor as the one from Raleigh
to Atlanta these days.

One ** BIG ** help to new residents is to buy the little $4.00 book
from Broadcasting Publications, Inc. which lists the frequencies of all
the AM and FM stations in the US by market. At least its a start when
you move to a new place.

Write "Broadcasting AM-FM guide, 1735 DeSales St. NW, Washington DC 20036"
(I don't know about the price, but you could call them)

P.S. On a related subject: Have you guys noticed a cancerous proliferation
(as in malignant) of 'Evergreen' formats in the last few months? Seems the
thing to do around here is play whiner after whiner, and call it 'Joy 100'
or 'Magic 99'. Now that Drake Chenault (leaders in automated superdreck)
is coming out with computerised rotation -- optimized for the elusive 35-44
year old audience -- will I have to run over my FM tuner with my 220 50 - VR16
Gatorbacks?

Does anyone actually like 'Whosssszzzzholllldeeendonnnnaaaaaa' ?
