[net.games.trivia] Exchange numbers

Where I come from (midtown Toronto), we are served by 480 exchange -
the numbers have only "48" in common, and differ in the last digit of
the exchange number.

While walking through downtown La Jolla (a rich suburb or San Diego
today) today, I found two offices and a jewelery store that still
had their phone numbers painted on display in the form:
GLenford 4 - xxxx instead of 454 - xxxx.

When I called suburban Philly directory assistance to get my in-laws' home
phone, they gave it to me as KI3-nnnn instead of 543-nnnn.

In Pittsfield, MA, you can omit the first two digits of the exchange, ie.
dial 2-nnnn instead of 442-nnnn. (Apparantly this was a concession to
public uproar over being forced to dial two extra digits when All-Digit
Dialing was instituted 20 years ago.) Many delivery trucks, ads, etc.
still use the 5-digit form.
