[net.games.trivia] potential T.P. mistake?

rjr@spuxll.UUCP (R. J. Riley) (07/24/84)

While playing Trivial Pursuit last weekend the question came up:
Q: What's the common name name for the constellation Ursa Major.

Well, m partner and I discussed the fact that it is "the Great Bear"
and also the "big Dipper". We settled on the answer "the big Dipper"
because around here that is the most common name.
To our surprise the given answer was "The Great Bear".
My question is this:
Are there areas in the country or Canada which use "the Great Bear" more
commonly than "The Big Dipper", or was this a mistake?
Thanx in advance for the responses.

The answer "The Big Dipper" would be only a partial answer.
The constelation Ursa Major (The Great Bear) contains several more
stars then the 7 stars making up "The Big Dipper".

What about the more common name in Ireland, "The Starry Plough"?

Gee, I always thought it was "the waine" (sp?), or "the wagon" :-).
