Does anybody know where I can ftp a Public domain/ shareware C compiler
for MS-DOS systems? Any help/pointers would be appreciated.

My usual response when I see someone asking for a PD/Shareware C
compiler, if what they want is a single copy for someone to learn C
with, is to direct them toward a product called Mix C, from Mix
Software. They run ads in postcard decks and in various computer
magazines, but essentially you get a basic compiler, not terribly quick
or fantastic in code generation, but which does support most of ANSI-C
and you get a terrific manual and tutorial book... for just under $25
including shipping and handling.

Singing off,
UNIX:/etc/ping instantiated (Ping Huang).

Even better, get their PowerC Compiler, which is a full-blown ANSI-C compiler
with a function library that includes the SYSV extensions and most of the
functions (except for graphics :( ) that are included with Microsoft and
Turbo C. Plus, it's quick, generates small tight code, and includes the
greate manual and tutorial... still only $19.95 plus $5 shipping and handling.

For another $19.95 they have a wonderful debugger, and the Library Source
Code is available for only $10. They used to have a bundle price for the
compiler, source, and debugger. (MIX claims that their PowerC commpiler is
faster and generates smaller .EXE files than MS or Turbo C.)

Their address is: MIX Software; 1132 Commerce Dr.; Richardson, TX 75081. They
do have a US watts number.

I'm not associated with MIX Software, just a satisfied customer. (I've got to order the latest upgrade ($5) -- it's supposed to have more graphics.)
