[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] vuimg with Tseng ET4000

stein@tellabs.com (Peter Stein) (06/07/91)

I've noticed that vuimg292 doesn't seem to set my video card ("Platinum
SVGA" - 512K, Tseng ET4000) to non-interlaced mode for 800x600x256
operation when using vuimg's DTSNG4 driver. The emphasis is on the word
"seem". While I get phenomenal resolution for GIF's there is always an
annoying shimmer/flicker present in the 800x600 mode which I've seen
before on other displays running in interlaced mode. Incidentally, my
monitor is the Panasync C1381. I'm wondering if the DTSNG4 driver does
in fact execute BOTH of the required mode instructions to produce
non-interlaced operation (for 800x600 and 1024x768 a second mode
instruction is required to set non-interlaced as opposed to the default
interlaced). "vuimg.doc" while implying optimization (non-interlaced if
possible) and actually listing modes for DTSNG4 doesn't indicate an
awareness that some cards may actually require 2 mode instructions.
It could very well be that DTSNG4 handles this properly and that my
video card or monitor are hosed. But before I investigate these
possibilities it would be beneficial to know more about the driver(s).
If anyone has resolved a similar situation or has knowledge about DTSNG4
or any other suitable driver I'd appreciate hearing from you.
