[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] CSHW830A.ZIP - Executable did not work

ziegenfE@batman.moravian.EDU (Eric W. Ziegenfus) (06/10/91)

I could not get the new version of Compushow to execute. Everything extracted
from the ZIP file okay, no errors, but the executable just hung up without
any output. Any help would be appreciated.

The doc file says that CShow may not be able to determine your video
display type and you may have to specify that it use generic VGA (if
that is your display type) in order to prevent it from attempting to
do SuperVGA extentions that your board may not support.

It also says that you can pick the correct display driver and rename
it to VIDEO.DRV and CShow will use it. Also see the notes about where
in the PATH this should be placed, and about an environment variable
that can be used to define its location.

The author of CShow is reachable via e-mail. The address is:

         76555.167@compuserve.com (Bob Berry)

CShow 8.30a works fine on my system. Please remember that this new
version will attempt to use EMS memory if it's available. You may
have a problem with memory conflicts. See the docs for futher details.

Have you tried it on another PC. On mine it works. Try to isolate
the conditions when the problem occurs. For example do you use an
EMS dirver, etc, etc. These hangups (pardon the pun) are not
necessarily surprising with programs that try and do utilize special
properties of the PC. If you stay stuck, use an older version (we
have one restored in the /pc/goldies directory).
