[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] OK, forget the price...

DAVE.JENKINS@OFFICE.WANG.COM (David E. Jenkins) (06/13/91)

Thanks to Keith and R.H. You are both right (of course and as usual).

I am aware of the restrictions/policies re. commercial use of this media and
that they are (and should be) non-negotiable. I should have realized that
posting the ASRP (Author's Suggested Registration Price) would step over
'the line'. OK, Color me naive. :-)

It does seem ironic that we can discuss/review/recommend something that is
posted/offerred but posting the ASRP comes too close to comm. advertising.

It would still be nice to see these announcements/reviews mention the type
(Free-, Share-, Charity-, Beg-, Nag-, Ask- ware) of software as many already
do except for making the distinction between the 287 flavors of 'shareware'.

It was just a thought. Thanks again.

Loosely related drivel:
I keep forgetting about the legal aspects of life. Once, another company
we were working with had a utility that did ALMOST what we needed. I said
"So, give me the source. I'll make the changes we need and give you back
the new utility. Then you can include it with your current offering". BUT,
first we had to bog down in the legal details of non-disclosure, ownership,
copyright, etc. and even what comments I would need to add to the source.
I realize life without laws would be chaos, but life with a little common
sense, courtesy, and descency would put a lot of lawyers out of work.

I know, before the flames come... No replies here! If anyone cares enough
to beat this dead horse some more do it in misc.legal or soc.culture.misc
or some place else without me. Feel free to torch me via email if you want.
