If you have a Mac with the 1.44 Superdrives, you can get an init called DOS Mounter which supposedly allows you to insert a PC DOS disk and use it just as if it were a Mac disk. [See also the Apple File Exchange program that comes with your Mac.] Failing that, there is a program by Data Viz called MacLink Plus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- justinlh@idsvax.ids.com (Justin Langseth) 9 Sep 90 You need the Copy II PC Option Board. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- dan@rna.UUCP (Dan Ts'o) 9 Jan 91 Central Point Software's COPY II PC Deluxe Option Board can read and write 800K (and 400K I think) MAC disks using the PC's 3.5" drive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- garrison@zodiac.rutgers.edu [summary] 10 Jan 91 Apple File Exchange (AFE) comes free with all new Macs; you need a SuperDrive. DOS Mounter (Dayna Design) mounts PC disks directly to the desktop. IBM disks look just like Macs with directories turned into folders etc. a working demo version of the program is on vega.hut.fi (FREE!!). PC Access: sounds similar to DOS Mounter (but costs money). MacLink Plus: translates application formats for AFE. DataViz ($135) translates loads of stuff. COPY-II-CARD (Central Point) driver/controller package ($120). Expensive but nice. Does more than just read Mac disks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- pwilliam@axion.bt.co.uk (Philip Williams) 14 Jan 91 I use dyna file; it plugs into the SCSI drive and makes IBM disks appear on the Mac desktop. works just fine... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- dewhirst@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu (Peter) 23 Mar 91 A Mac with "SuperDrive" can read/write MS-DOS (720K) disks with Apple File Exchange. Or you could just hook up the serial ports. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- berger@atropa.stat.uiuc.edu (Mike Berger) 23 Mar 91 The easiest way with standard equipment is to buy a Central Point Systems Copy-II-PC Options Board for around $ 100. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aaron.Roydhouse@comp.vuw.ac.nz (Aaron Roydhouse) 5 Apr 91 CopyIIPC Deluxe Option Board, Central Point Software Inc., 9700 S.W. Capitol Highway, Portland, Oregon 97219. (503)244-5782. NOTE: It does not read high density Mac II disks, nor does it work on all brands of 3.5" drive. Notably it does not work with the Mitsubishi mechanism. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- gmurray@ibmpcug.co.uk (G Murray) 6 Apr 91 If the MAC disks are the newer high density type then the PC should be able to read them directly. Or you can get a board/software by MicroSolutions called either MatchMaker or MatchPoint. One of these allows a PC to access an Apple II disk, the other allows reading/writing of MAC disks, but I can't remeber which is which. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- nyet@nntp-server.caltech.edu (n liu) 7 Apr 91 If your Mac has a superdrive, there's an init called initPC (i think) that allows the Mac to do the writing in PC format for either HD or 720. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- c60b-1eq@web-1e.berkeley.edu (Noam Mendelson) 7 Apr 91 If your Mac has superdrive, you can use the Apple File Exchange. =============================================================================== S: Converting disks MS-DOS <-> Sinclair Spectrum ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Queries from: p515dfi@mpifr-bonn.mpg.de (Daniel Fischer) 9 May 90 =============================================================================== S: Converting disks MS-DOS <-> TRS-80 Model I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Queries from: rwolkoys@megatek.UUCP (Ron Wolkoys) 14 Jan 91 =============================================================================== S: Converting disks MS-DOS <-> whatever ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Queries from: uunet!frith!upba!tssi!nolan (Michael Nolan) 9 May 90 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Try XenoCopy-PC from XENOSOFT, 2210 Sixth Street, Berkeley CA 94710-2210, (415) 644-9366
