The album 'Let It Be' was recorded before 'Abbey Road'. I do not have the information in front of me, but I believe 'Let It Be' was recorded in January of 1969. 'Abbey Road' was recorded in the fall of 1969. The Beatles lost interest in 'Let It Be' and the album was shelved. Some D.J. copies were released at that time. The Beatles then recorded and released 'Abbey Road'. In 1970 Phil Spector brought life (sic) back into the 'Let It Be' project and the album was then released. Side effects: Paul claims that he never heard or authorized the final copy of the 'Let It Be' tapes. The strings in the songs Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road were added by Mr. Spector and do not appear on the D.J. copies. The official reason, not the real ones, that Paul announced his departure from the Beatles was from a conflict in release dates between his first solo album and that of 'Let It Be'. The other three Beatles thought that he should shelve his album, he thought otherwise and history was made. In all fairness to Paul the Beatles had ceased to be a group many months before this occured Rick AT&T Bell Laboratories, Holmdel decvax!vax135!rick
