The Office Automation Group at the University of Waterloo has immediate
opening for a research system programmer for the MINOS (Multimedia
INformation Office Systems) project.

The group studies problems related to the architecture of Office
Systems and has developed a distributed multimedia document management
system.  The system is based on optical and magnetic disk technologies
(WORM disks, CD-ROM's, etc). It is based on a server architecture. In
this distributed environment setting the group studies problems related
to modeling, logical data base design, physical data base design, query
language, user interfaces, and access methods for multimedia data
residing on optical disks.

Our present computing facility includes a number of SUN workstations -
a 3/160 fileserver and an assortment of 3/160, 3/50, 3/140
diskless workstations, IBM PC-AT and access to the research VAXes in
the campus as well. The lab is also equipped with two WORM optical disk
drives, a CD-ROM drive, an optical scanner, and voice digitization equipment.

We are looking for a motivated individual with a university degree in
Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent. Skills and/or background
in UNIX system/internals, C, networking in TCP/IP, database is
desired.

Representative duties include:
	1)      software development and installation;
	2) 	documentation including user's manual, system manual
		and operation guide;
	3)      system maintenance including installation and
		configuration of new hardware;
	4)      user support.

The ideal candidate should possess good verbal communication and
analysis skills, and be able to work well with others. Interested
