>>What is the most populous monosyllabic (sp?) city in the U.S.A.?

Great question!
It took me quite a while just to think of one 1 syllable city.

Anyways, the correct (:-)) answer is

Newark (pronounced "Nerk"), NJ. Population 1,836,900
Hey, they pronounce it with 1 syllable.

The more correct answer (source: Rand McNally)

Flint, MI (159,611)

followed by

Lynn, MA (78,471)
Troy, MI (67,102)
Troy, NY (56,638)
Wayne, NJ (46,474)
Ames, IA (45,775)
York, PA (44,619)
Rome, NY (43,826)

BTW, these are city populations only, not city + surrounding suburbia.

Now for a new question:

What well-known pop singer is
