[alt.rock-n-roll] Best of 1989 - Final Poll Results

geigel@soleil.UUCP (jogle) (01/19/90)

Okay...the final results are here. First of all, I wish to thank everyone
who participated in the poll. The amount of participation greatly exceeded
my expectations. I recieved a total of 77 lists that were either mailed
to me or grabbed from the net. Not everyone's list contained 20 entries.
In fact, the average number of entries per list ended up being approx
   8.8.

A word about the scoring. I ended up giving an album 20 points if it
was listed as #1 on a list, 19 points for #2, 18 points for #3, etc.
If a person mentioned that his or her list was in no particular order,
I distributed the total number of points equally amoung the albums
listed. (For example, if a list contained 6 entries that were in no
   particular order, Each entry would recieve 20 + 19 + 18 + 17 + 16 + 15/ 6
= 15.83 points. -- This is why on the total scores listed below, you
may see some decimals). In case of a tie, the album with the higher
number of votes got the higher position.

Finally, a word on the list. Each entry on the list has two numbers
after it. The first is the total number of points that the album
received. The number in parens is the number of lists on which the
album appeared. I intended to list only those albums that were voted
for at least twice. To my surprise, this left a list of 113 albums!
So, to make things neat, I cut down the final list to 100.

Now, without any further adieu....The Top 100 Albums/CDs of 1989
as voted on my rec.music.misc, rec.music.cd and alt.rock-n-roll:

Obviously, your tabulation would be quite different if you had
included rec.music.gdead in your survey |-)
