[comp.mail.sendmail] relaying through EARN

taylor@cs.glasgow.ac.uk (Jem Taylor) (08/01/88)

I'll be posting a couple of extra rulesets to the ML soon. They are the ones I
used in 1.4a to enable relaying to the US and elsewhere thro' EARN. They ensure
that the name of the topmost overseas address is in NRS order so that EARN will
relay it properly. They also ensure that other overseas addresses are in
international order. This means messing with addresses below the % which is
undesirable according to several posting in comp.mail.sendmail but necessary
to undo the mapping that UCL do on incoming mail. I named these rulesets 18
 and 19 on 1.4a, I've renamed them 19 and 29 for 1.5. Please don't use up
all of the rulesets yourself when you release 1.6 :-) !!

I don't like this - relaying to the US should be done via UCL at least from the
uk academic community. However, local needs get local fixes.

Beware that some older sendmails only allow around 30 rulesets. Having said
that, I suggest that you use rulesets 30,31 and that we reserve rulesets
30 to 39 for local hacks. I do not expect uk-1.6 to need many more rulesets,
unless there are more mailer definitions donated!
