We are currently in the process of converting all our mail systems (and machines) to using name service. Once this is done, outgoing mail to anywhere should work, and people should be able to reply. What we'd like to do is implement a mail exchange system, so that: 1. Mail to 'user@host.cps.msu.edu' always goes to the same machine (say, 'mailer.cps.msu.edu'). We should be able to do this with MX records, right? 2. (The hard part.) Mail to 'user@cps.msu.edu' should go to the "right" machine for that user (preferably set by the user, but having a fixed place for it is OK as long as it isn't too much work to maintain). Does anyone have software for this? Our mail machine would be either a Sun-3 (running SunOS 3.x or 4.0), or a VAX 8600 (running Ultrix 2.2 or thereabouts). Is there an easy solution using existing software? We don't want to give users accounts on the mailer, and maintaining an alias file (user => user@host) would be a lot of work (with students coming, going, and moving at the rate of 50-100 per quarter). Suggestions? Send e-mail to rang@cpswh.cps.msu.edu, or post.
