At our site we unpack the uucp maps nightly and rebuild the pathalias data base weekly. I recently noticed however that: Our path to hplabs is: uunet!hplabs!username and Our path to hpfcse is: rochester!rutgers!hplabs!hpcea!hpfcla!hpfcse!username Can anyone suggest as to why the path to hpfcse isn't through uunet since our path to hplabs is through uunet ? thanks -- *x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x Joe Kane * ARPA: kane@ge-crd.arpa (518)387-6748 * UUCP: {uunet, philabs, rochester}!steinmetz!kane * GE DECnet: kbsvax::kane

Because uunet lists hplabs as a terminal domain. They list a lot of Internet sites this way. Technically, it is ok for them to send mail directly to hplabs (i.e. uucp->internet->internet), but it is illegal to send it over the internet if the final destination is off of it (i.e. uucp->internet-> internet->uucp). -- Larry Blair ames!vsi1!lmb lmb%vsi1.uucp@ames.arc.nasa.gov
