This is considered a plus in rmail because you will tend to get a lot of rmail processes all at once after a UUCP neighbor calls up and dumps on you. Having each one queue rather than deliver in background tends to trim the CPU spike. Ok, so if -odb is a plus, wouldn't -odi be even better? With -odb you have to wait until the hourly queue run before your mail is delivered. With -odi, the mail is delivered immediately but uuxqt is held up until delivery is complete. That solves your load average problem. It's the same technique normally used by rnews, but sendmail takes only a tiny fraction of the time. <csg>
