[comp.mail.sendmail] sendmail version >= 5.59 with IDA patches

generous@daitc.daitc.mil (Curtis Generous) (04/13/89)

While looking-up the syntax for the RHS rewriting rules, I noticed a
new metasymbol that I had not seen before (ref. section 5.2.4 of op guide):

$&x Force runtime evaluation of macro x

The rest of the documentation, or the source code mentions little to nothing
as to it's use. Can anyone provide any insight? One feature I would like to
see is the capability to evaluate a class definition such as:

FC/etc/hosts.uucp (where hosts.uucp is the nightly output of uuname)

This way, sendmail at startup time could still load the data space image from
the sendmail.fc file but yet still allow some flexibitly for those of us
who still hard code such information as UUCP connections in the config file.
The start-up advantages could would still be better that no sendmail.fc
file at all.
