I have a question about the Domain Name Servers in regard to MX records and forwarding. I am pretty new to all this so please bear with me. I recently obtained a US Domain for my computer at home (actsn.fay.ar.us) and my MX forwarder is 'ksuvax1.cis.edu'. Now I am root at 'cseg' which is on the internet, but we do not have an official domain name yet (coming soon I hope). 'cseg' is one of a bunch of 3B2's at the University of Arkansas here in Fayetteville which are all on the internet ('cseg' = [130.184.64.202]). What I was wondering, is if it is possible for an MX record to point to an IP address rather than a name, i.e., point to [130.184.64.202] rather than 'ksuvax1.cis.ksu.edu'. If this is possible then I could just ask for my MX record to point to 'cseg' ([130.184.64.202]) and then KSUVAX1.CIS.KSU.EDU could get me out their hair (Hi Tim! :-) and it also would be about 3 or 4 machines closer to my computer (actsn.fay.ar.us), as in directly connected. As it stands now, 'ksuvax1' forwards my mail via the 'hcx!cseg!actsn' route. If possible I would like to have my MX record point directly to '[130.184.64.202]' and then it could just send the mail directly to 'actsn' via UUCP. Is this possible? Sorry to be SO EXPLICIT, but I wanted to try to be very clear. What is wrong with this idea (will it work at all?). Inquiring Minds Want to Know! :-) Thanks in advance. If this is the wrong news group(s) then please gently direct me to the proper place. - David Summers (dws@cseg.uucp) (..!harris.cis.ksu.edu!hcx!cseg!dws) (david@actsn.fay.ar.us) <---- My new OFFICIAL domain name!
