I am unaware of the implications in replacing Sun's sendmail with Berkeley's. I figure that Sun must run an old version, since none of the "^Q", "^V", etc special characters appear in debug mode. Has anyone in netland installed the real bsd sendmail on sunOS? Any ideas as to the person-hours required to install? Thanks Timothy Reed treed@fsg.com ..!uunet!fsg!treed

Yes, and not long. You may ftp my sendmail source from hermes.iec.ufl.edu, as the file ~ftp/src/etc/sendmail-5.61ufiec.tar.Z. The only system that I have used to compile this source is a 3/280 running 4.0.3. It is based on Stanley Barber's patches for use on SunOS. It also includes Jeff Forys's hostaliases code and the diffs that I posted a couple of days ago for adding a default definition of the m macro and for fixing a minor bug related to reading the NAME environment variable when starting up in daemon mode. Just ftp (binary mode), uncompress, untar, edit a couple of files to fit your local needs, and make. Maybe an hour or two to do it all. If you can't ftp, try to get someone else to get it for you, as I have left my position administering those computers. Note that I haven't tried Sun's cf files with this code, so they may not be compatible. Hermes's IP address is 128.227.128.8 and the file is 629835 bytes.
