[comp.mail.sendmail] Sendmail...Help!

bret@codonics.COM (Bret Orsburn) (10/17/89)

Uncle!

I can't persuade sendmail to use my domain address in the "From:" line
of mail headers.

Any hints, suggestions, pointers to (useful!) FMs would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: I have a Sun 3/80, SunOS 4.0.3, sendmail.main.cf (+ mods)
I am using Mail and everything else right off the shelf (no PD stuff--yet)
Everything is quite new (All about 1 month old)
     My system is stand-alone
I am not using Yellow Pages
     My "hostname" is codonics
My "domainname" is noname (Because I don't want to use YP?)
My REAL (registered) domain name is codonics.COM

Here are some portions of my config that *may* be relevant:

# major relay mailer - typical choice is "ddn" if you are on the
# Defense Data Network (e.g. Arpanet or Milnet)
DMsmartuucp

# major relay host: use the $M mailer to send mail to other domains
DR uunet
CR uunet

# local domain names
#
# These can now be set from the domainname system call.
# If your YP domain is different from the domain name you would like to have
# appear in your mail headers, edit them to be your mail domain name.
# Note that the first component of the YP domain name is stripped off unless
# it begins with a dot or a plus sign.
# DmPodunk.EDU
Dmcodonics.COM

# known hosts in this domain are obtained from gethostbyname() call

# Version number of configuration file
DVSMI-4.0

Yes, you are absolutely right: I really don't know what I'm doing.
But I have read the bleedin' manuals till I'm cross-eyed. Help!

[If I were an accredited institution, I might be persuaded to grant an advanced
degree to the writer of these manuals, but they sure don't help me configure
my mail system! Re-writing rules?! Get serious! :-{ (Weary smilie)]
