[comp.mail.sendmail] Sendmail dumps core on Apollo

cander@unisoft.UUCP (Charles Anderson) (11/23/89)

Configuration: Sendmail 5.51 on an Apollo DN 4500 running SR10.1
(bsd4.3).

Problem: When receiving mail from UUCP, via rmail, the sendmail process
dies with an invalid, non-null pointer.

Other items: If I give rmail a simple, local mail message, it gets
delivered fine with the hostname "somewhere" prependend to the user
name on the From:  line.

If I give rmail a copy of a UUCP mail message (one stolen from the
outgoing UUCP queue), the message gets delivered, but the host name on
the From: and From lines gets garbaged (non-printable characters).

I have this running correctly on another Apollo node. The sendmail
executable is identical (acording to cmp(1)) and I've even run them
with the same configuration files. There are no old .fc files lying
around to confuse sendmail. rmail and sendmail have resonable modes.

For apollo people, tb says the process is dying in main() at line 370;
the PC is 0x8a76; the IR is 0x8001; the faulting address is the same
as A2 which is 0x2f757372;

Any clues? Any other tests that might be useful?
