I've got a bit of a messy situation here. I run a small LAN, with a single UUCP link from host 'wizard'. We talk to our main corporate gateway, Tandem.COM, over this UUCP link; there is no TCP/IP link between us at this time. To keep naming issues simpler, I use a subdomain '.dsg.tandem.com' for the hosts I run. I'm getting stuck on two issues: 1) I need tandem.com to forward *.dsg.tandem.com directly to me via UUCP; currently, sendmail thinks that .dsg.tandem.com should be an SMTP connection, and bombs with 'Host unknown'. Running sendmail -bt shows pretty clearly that it is resolving to the SMTP mailer. 2) I can't just fallback on emitting 'wizard'; I have to use the FQDN, as 'wizard' (unqualified) is a registered UUCP name and therefore not mine to use. The gateway is running SunOS 4.0; I don't think that the sendmail recognizes MX records, though I am not sure. (How would I tell for sure?) It seems to be using the Sun version of named. The sendmail.cf is based on Erik Fair's 'generic complex host' configuration. I'm not root on the gateway system, so simple solutions are the best. -- Scott Hazen Mueller | scott@zorch.SF-Bay.ORG or (ames|pyramid|vsi1)!zorch!scott 10122 Amador Oak Ct.|(408) 253-6767 |Mail fusion-request@zorch.SF-Bay.ORG Cupertino, CA 95014|Love make, not more|for emailed sci.physics.fusion digests
