Hello, I'm having trouble setting up mail clients using SUN's "sendmail.subsidiary.cf" file rather than use UK-sendmail to generate a "generic" configuration for each client to use. The idea is to avoid having to feed a new NRS-derived sendmail.cf into each client each day. Having added a "Dm" line which says "Dmmrc-apu.cam.ac.uk" to the SUN supplied file, I think it works for the client machines OK. However when I try to use the same slave config file for a "mailbox server" I find that it wont recognise local mail: that is if the server is called "mailbox" and a user has a YP alias like "user@mailbox" mail sent from the mailhost (gateway?) machine seems to be sent to the mailbox machine OK but the machine doesnt recognise the user as local and sends it back to the mailhost - reulting in a loop of course. I have tried adding lines like "Cmmailbox.mrc-apu.cam.ac.uk" and this causes sendmail to reduce "user@mailbox.mrc-apu.cam.ac.uk" to "user@LOCAL" but sendmail then turns this into "user@mrc-apu.cam.ac.uk" and sends this over the "ether" channel, causing the loop. Has anyone got a sendmail.subsidiary.cf file to work as a mailbox server? Any hints? Steve Platt Computer Manager MRC Applied Psychology Unit 15 Chaucer Road Cambridge CB2 2EF

If you *must* have more than one `mailbox server' I suggest you run uk-sendmail setups on each mailbox machine. These setups do not need to contain the NRS data at all - they can only recognise their own address, and know that all other stuff should go to the `clever' machine. It is probably best to keep a list of top-level domains on each mailbox machine, but that does not change very often.
