We recently upgraded to sendmail version 5.61 and we've noticed an annoying behavior. When a network client tries to send to a mailing list that contains one or more invalid local addresses (as well as some valid addresses), the response to the RCPT TO command is 550, which causes the client to abort the entire delivery. By doing a manual telnet to the SMTP port I discovered that if the client were to continue the message would be delivered to the valid addresses; but normal clients have no way of knowing this. Is there a way to get sendmail to accept the message and send its own failure notice back to the sender describing the individual addresses that failed? Please reply to bug-mailers@think.com; our newsfeed has been pretty sluggish lately, and not all of us read this newsgroup. -- Barry Margolin, Thinking Machines Corp. barmar@think.com {uunet, harvard}!think!barmar
