I am not a sendmail guru and I have two questions regarding sendmail 5.61 or 5.64 + IDA. First when a mail is saved into a file, and the file does not exist yet, it is saved as belonging to the root. (if it exists, I think it depends of the setuid and setgid bits of the file). Considering that the code which does that is more or less the same one that save dead.letter, I wanted to change it in such a way that it will save the file and if it has to be created, it will set the uid and the gid to the same one that the directory in which it is saved. Anybody have done that already? Does it sound secure enough? Any comments? My second question is related to the number of connection sendmail does when a big number of messages have been spooled for a host. Does sendmail make as many connections as there are mails, or does it figure out that these other mails are spooled for the same host and send them one after each other?
