[comp.mail.sendmail] UNIX mail: Strange behaviour.

antek@bioch.tamu.edu (09/27/90)

Hi!

I'm using a MIPS (BSD) version of UNIX and after upgrading from 1.0 to 1.2
the mail (sendmail?) started to behave really nasty. We have a VAX connection
via Ethernet, and the hardware is OK, Telnet and FTP are doing fine.
But when I try to send a mail to a VAX like :

% mail antek@bigraf.tamu.edu
.....

after the message is ready, two things happen:

   1) On UNIX, I'm getting an error message like "Can't send to ...."
and the mail is returned to me.
   2) On VAX - the mail **IS** received as a standard SMTP-looking message
the sender address etc - all is OK.

When I try to send FROM a VAX to UNIX, the mail IS received by the UNIX site,
but then it sits in the queue and IS NEVER DELIVERED to the addresee.
The address of the receiver and sender are both correct.

I know, something is set wrong - any clue, WHAT could it be ??
