We are running sendmail 5.61 with the IDA enhancements on an HP9000S800, HPUX 7.0. We are also running bind.4.8. Most of the time, everything operates flawlessly. We have an intermittent problem when it comes to sending mail to hosts with domain style names who are not directly on the Internet and who use someone like uunet.uu.net as a mail exchanger. Quite often, this mail bounces back with the "valid name but no data [address]" error. (If the user persists in remailing the letter, it eventually makes it through.) This error appears to be generated by my local system, prior to any SMTP conversation. In fact, no such conversation ever takes place. I have not been able to get the problem to manifest itself, despite persistent trying, but have seen several letters bounced back to users with the aforementioned error. The MX records for the hosts in question seem to be correct. I am baffled. Any ideas would be most appreciated. -- Glen Gordon | Internet: ggordon@agsm.ucla.edu Computing Services | Bitnet : ggordon@uclagsm.bitnet Anderson Graduate School of Management | AT&Tnet : (213) 206-6590 University of California, Los Angeles | Fax : (213) 206-2002
