[comp.mail.sendmail] Passing message to knowledgable host when name server fails

mday@iconsys.uucp (Matt Day) (10/19/90)

I can't figure out how to configure Sendmail to pass a message to a more
knowledgable host when the host table lookup fails. For example, if I
send mail to "user@host.com", Sendmail first tries to find "host.com" by
polling the name server, and when the name server can't find "host.com",
the message is immediately returned to the user with the error message
"Unknown host: Authoritative answer from name server". What I'd like to
do instead of returning the mail is to pass the message to uunet.uu.net
who can then decide whether the host is a UUCP node or not (since it
obviously wasn't an Internet node, but just has a phony domain name).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
