I'm having a slightly different problem with SunOS 4.1 sendmail.mx than I've seen people mention. I use NIS host maps with ypserv configured to check the DNS resolver when it can't resolve a name using the NIS map. When I use the 4.1 sendmail.nomx things work as you would expect (i.e., I can send mail to a machine named maxwell.ece.cmu.edu using the names "maxwell.ece.cmu.edu," "maxwell.ece," and "eem" <an NIS alias>). However, when I install sendmail.mx (with the same sendmail.cf file) the partially qualified hostnames no longer work (i.e., "maxwell.ece.cmu.edu" and "eem" still work, but "maxwell.ece" fails with a host unknown error). Has anyone else observed this behavior? I considered punting the SunOS sendmail and installing 5.65+IDA+UIUC sendmail. However, it isn't obvious to me what my configuration file should look like if I want to keep using the NIS with DNS backup for A record lookups. Could someone send me an example sendmail.cf for this configuration? I only have to deal with TCP mailers and the machines sit directly on the Internet, so it shouldn't be a strange configuration. Thanks for any suggestions, -David -- David P. Maynard (dpm@cs.cmu.edu) Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Carnegie Mellon University --
