I'm a total novice at this, but all the experts I've asked had no answer. Two problems, which may or may not be related. They both have to do with mail to MX sites. Using nslookup on my machine, I can find the appropriate mail exchangers for them, and using /ucb/mail and sendmail *usually* works OK. I'm running a DECstation 3100 with DECwindows. However... 1. If I try to send to an MX site within mh (DECwindows) mail, it immediately bounces with 'unknown host.' What I don't understand is that the mh programs themselves use sendmail. 2. In one case, I sent mail within emacs to an MX site (this usually works, and does not use mh), and got the message back with the 'unknown host' message, *but in fact the message was sent and received!* In this case, it was a large file (~100K), whereas other times where it worked did not have long messages. Any suggestions? Please reply to keister@poincare.phys.cmu.edu Brad Keister Physics Dept. Carnegie Mellon U
