[comp.mail.sendmail] Strange a curious interaction between sendmail daemon and mhhcp

jonathan@cs.keele.ac.uk (Jonathan Knight) (02/15/91)

I have a problem.

I'm also having trouble with sendmail and
the mhhcp program from the York Comms package.

First scenario:

Email arrives via SMTP to the sendmail daemon. It processes it and
resolves it to the 'hhcp' mailer for the host 'nsf'. It passes it
on to hhsend which in turn passes it to mhhcp which then dies with
the error 'mhhcp: network address "nsf" not found.' and the mail
is returned.

Second Scenario:

Email is sent from 'elm' on the machine with the X25 interface to the
same address. Elm starts a local sendmail which in turn calls hhsend
and mhhcp. The email is sent normally.

This is for version 4.12 of sendmail with UK-sendmail 1.4 running
on Dynix 3.15 (sequent symmetry).

I've done the obvious of rebuilding the directory.[pag|dir] and
restarting the daemon. I've tried running mhhcp by hand under the
bourne shell as the user 'daemon' and it works perfectly. I've checked
the permissions of the files and run mhhcp as an ordinary unpriviledged
user and it still works. As far as I can tell it is only the address
'nsf' that fails, all the others I've tried work and even using
'nsfnet-relay' works OK (which is the long name of 'nsf' in the
directory).

If anyone can come up with some suggestions I would be grateful.
