> By now I am sure many of you have noticed the following being inserted into
> mail messages by PSUVAX1:
>
> X-Notice: Effective 1 March 1991 the host PSUVAX1.CS.PSU.EDU
> will NO LONGER GATEWAY MAIL for entities outside
> of the College of Science of The Pennsylvania State
> University. Comments and questions should be addressed
> to postmaster@cs.psu.edu.
>
> This means exactly what it says. After 1 March 1991 mail that does not
> originate from or is destined to a machine within the College of
> Science will be rejected and returned to the sender. I would like to
> offer the following suggestions to make life easier for all:
>
> 1) Modify you mailer configuration so that PSUVAX1 is not the
> host you punt to when you can not figure out how to deliver
> something. For sendmail this would be the sendmail.cf file.
>
> 2) Mail to BITNET hosts should be sent to PSUVM.PSU.EDU. The To:
> address should be of the form:
>
> JoeUser%NODENAME.BITNET@PSUVM.PSU.EDU
>
> Make sure that '.BITNET' appears after the node name. The
> CAC has assured me that their mailer 'will do the right
> thing' with these addresses.
>
> 3) If you are a BITNET node using PSUVAX1 as an INTERNET gateway
> please start sending the mail to INTERBIT instead. This is
> the 'official' Internet-BITNET gateway.
>
> We are still trying to locate a site that will be willing to act as a
> UUCP gateway. To date we have not been able to locate one. If one can
> not be located I will try to make the case that we should continue for
> a while longer gatewaying between UUCP and the INTERNET.
>
> As always I will attempt to help any of you with any questions you
> might have. Please send e-mail or call me.
