[comp.mail.sendmail] Sendmail Over UUCP

yearke@planck.uucp (Dave Yearke) (03/05/91)

We have an internal network of 30-40 UNIX boxes connected by Ethernet.
One of those machines has some modems on it, and communicates with our
Usenet feed via uucp. At the present time, mail from client machines
go out without the server's name in the From: line, and people have a
hard time replying to folks on the client machines. How can I adjust
sendmail on the server and/or the client so that all mail appears to
come from one site, with a .uucp domain name attached? Or, alternately,
how can I attach the server's name to the From: line in a meaningful
way (i.e. mail from hercules, a machine in our network, would have a
From: line of "user%hercules@planck.uucp" or "planck!hercules!user")?
We are using smail 2.5 to resolve outbound addresses; I have tried using
the "hidden hosts" features, but am not having any luck.

The server is a Sun 4 running SunOS 4.1.

Sorry to ask what might be an obvious question. It seems like this is
a fairly common thing to do, but we're having lots of problems with it.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
