[comp.mail.sendmail] New IDA sendmail release for SGI?

csmoko@earth.nswc.navy.mil (Chuck Smoko - E41) (03/14/91)

Hello,
I am sort of new to this news group so please excuse me if this topic
has been discussed previously. But what I was wondering was: if IDA
sendmail has been ported to a Silicon Graphics computer. I usually
work on Suns, but we now have some SGIs that we want to be able to
send/receive mail between the Suns and SGIs. We are running OS 3.3.2
and are not running NIS (formerly YP) nor are we running DNS. I found
that the SGI sendmail was flaky; so I tried to compile an older (5.6?)
IDA sendmail, and it failed miserably. Has anyone either successfully
or unsuccessfully done a IDA sendmail port? If unsuccessful, why? I
would rather not reinvent the wheel.

In November and December (1990) Paul Pomes did a lot of work getting
sendmail/IDA to run on many platforms. I am almost certain SGI was one of
these. Pick up his latest distribution in the /pub directory of
uxc.cso.uiuc.edu with anonymous ftp.

Neil is correct on this - we are running 5.65a+IDA on our SGI here. It
came up easily. The new release he mentions is 5.65b+IDA but I expect no
problems.
