I'm trying to get an Apollo workstation's sendmail to talk to other
sendmail daemons, but it doesn't work.
On this machine ("motto", an Ultrix machine with a fully functional sendmail
daemon), sending in verbose mode, our sendmail connects to theirs, which
identifies itself. Then we send HELO, and it says hello back. Then for
some reason, we send QUIT, and there's an entry for the mail message
saying "Deferred: Bad file number" in the mail queue.
Sending from the Apollo side to Ultrix doesn't work either. Their mailer
doesn't have verbose mode so I can't see the SMTP conversation, but
it does fall into the queue with the error "Deferred: No such file or
directory".
Naturally, both bounce after three days.
Any takers?
