I just configured, compiled, and installed sendmail-5.65b+IDA-1.4.3 on a Sun SLC. I had previously been running sendmail-5.65+IDA-1.3.5, but with a simple, home-grown sendmail.cf. With the new version I set up some of the dbm stuff, used the .m4 file to make the sendmail.cf. Seemed great to me. Shortly after running it, the machine began to crash with the following syslog messages. Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: BAD TRAP Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: pid 11267, `sendmail': Data fault Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: kernel read fault at addr=0xf8203fb4, pme=0x0 Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: Sync Error Reg 80<INVALID> Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: pc=0xf80ddcfc, sp=0xf819fd30, psr=0x1ac1, contex t=0x0 Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: g1-g7: ff0e8d38, f8130000, 1ae2, 0, f8209000, f8 138000, f8138400 Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: Begin traceback... sp = f819fd30 Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: Called from f80dda9c, fp=f8208e98, args=f81657d8 18 f811ff30 f811ff48 f81e1000 f811ff48 Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: End traceback... Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: panic: Data fault Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: syncing file systems... BAD TRAP ...and so on. This happens periodically. Have I run into some famous patch that I need to install? (I used the malloc.c provided.) I've gone back to the older version and cf file, and things are fine again.

Seemed great to me. Always glad to hear such things. Perhaps my manager will note how my fun time is spent? Perhaps not. But I digress. >Shortly after running it, the machine began to crash with the following >syslog messages. > >Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: BAD TRAP >Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: pid 11267, `sendmail': Data fault >Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: kernel read fault at addr=0xf8203fb4, pme=0x0 >Apr 2 00:27:51 goodman vmunix: Sync Error Reg 80<INVALID> Ahh, the "pmeg" bug. I bet you have >= 16 Mbytes of memory too. There's now new information in the Makefile about that. # If your SUN has more 16 Mbytes of memory and running sendmail # crashes it, you have the 'pmeg' bug. Get patch 100092-03 and install it. # It's available via anon-FTP from princeton.edu in # pub/sun-fixes/sunos4.1/{100092-03.tar.Z,README.100092-03} Happy mailing. Soon to come: 5.65c: 8bit changes from across the pond, and support for more curious unix boxes. There's at least one of everything in this University if you look in the right crevices... /pbp -- Paul Pomes UUCP: {att, iuvax, uunet}!uiucuxc!paul Internet, BITNET: paul@uxc.cso.uiuc.edu US Mail: UofIllinois, CSO, 1304 W Springfield Ave, Urbana, IL 61801-2910
