[comp.mail.sendmail] UK-2.1

owen@hiper.uucp (Owen Thomas) (09/28/90)

Dear all,
Firstly is this the most recent version of uk-sendmail?
And secondly do you know of anyone who has had any success with using it
on a V.3 mailer etherneted with SUNs?

All in all I'm very pleased with it.

Hi,

I am manager of the Dutch EUnet backbone, and currently we are
encouraging everyone to migrate from uucp addressing to domain addressing.

As was expected this leads to problems at many sites, who suddenly
have to install a mail transport agent that handles domain addressing.

From some colleagues I heard of the existence of UK-2.1, which would
be a program allowing easy configuration of the sendmail.cf file.
This appears to be just what I'm looking for to hand out to our users.

My questions therefore are:

- Is UK-2.1 Public Domain?
- Where can I obtain it?
- Is it easy to use/install on BSD and SysV machines?
- In case of one or more negative answers to the above questions:
  is there a good alternative?

Please email answers to martijn@nluug.nl, because I'm not on this list.

Thank in advance!

Martijn,
you don't have to go very far to get a copy :-), although I will
admit that I've never used this version. As far as I know it is P.D.
but I'll rely on an answer from the authors, if they are still out
there, before commiting myself

Shame on you Neil, hinting that you still use version 1.4a; even hw.cs
have upgraded to 2.1 by now. (:-)

You are free to distribute UK-sendmail Neil, as far as I know. The
`as far as I know' bit is because when I grepped for various strings
like copyright, public, distribute etc the only relevant bits I came
up with were some copyright notices in Jem's scripts and this from
Rules.a:

##################################################################
##################################################################
#####
##### SENDMAIL CONFIGURATION FILE UK-2.1
#####
##### Copyright (C) November 1988, Jim Crammond, Imperial College
##### Jem Taylor, Glasgow University
#####
#####	This configuration file maybe be freely distributed,
#####	provided that this notice and copyright is preserved.
#####	This software is provided as is without any warranty.
#####
##################################################################

which I suppose could be taken to refer to configuration files
produced by the package rather than the package itself. But really,
this isn't the intention.

We too are interested in getting hold of the latest version. Can it
be made available through one of the info-servers please?
Thanks
Lindsay
