I've been asked to investigate what might constitute reasonable upper and lower time frames for the transmission and reception of email (ie., sendmail) to remote sites. This question came as the result of an eleven (11) hour transmit time from the originator at this site to his associate located some 2000 miles away (although located within the contiguous 48 United States). Some crude investigations are leading me to believe that eleven hours is not an entirely unreasonable requirement for this type of long-distance transmission, depending upon the precise nature of point-to-point routing, time of day, etc. I would greatly appreciate receiving email about your own experiences, opinions, and expertise (I suppose the transfer times associated with your replies will lend themselves to this discussion :-).
