Hello! Well, I'm staring at the Smail3 source code..... It's just told me that I can't get mail to world.std.com (we're on the Internet, and running the BIND router). This is obviously not correct, as the info below shows: rcode = 0 (Success), ancount=5 The following answer is not authoritative: world.std.com 145663 IN A 192.74.137.5 world.std.com 80413 IN MX 100 world.std.com world.std.com 80413 IN MX 200 relay1.UU.NET world.std.com 80413 IN MX 300 news.UU.NET world.std.com 80413 IN MX 400 uunet.UU.NET For authoritative answers, see: std.com 145660 IN NS SKULD.STD.COM std.com 145660 IN NS WORLD.STD.COM std.com 145660 IN NS NS.UU.NET Additional information: world.std.com 145663 IN A 192.74.137.5 relay1.UU.NET 148883 IN A 137.39.1.5 relay1.UU.NET 148883 IN A 192.48.96.5 news.UU.NET 148883 IN A 137.39.1.4 news.UU.NET 148883 IN A 192.48.96.4 news.UU.NET 148883 IN A 192.48.96.132 news.UU.NET 71078 IN A 137.39.48.1 uunet.UU.NET 167022 IN A 192.48.96.2 uunet.UU.NET 167022 IN A 137.39.1.2 SKULD.STD.COM 145663 IN A 192.74.137.1 NS.UU.NET 153513 IN A 137.39.1.3 That says to me that there are four valid MXs for world.std.com, one of which is the site itself, the others are the relay sites for UUNET. I can't find anything wrong with the records above..... so what's the deal? Is this something that is fixed in a later Smail3 release? The version info we have is: release: Smail3.1.18.1, 22-nov-89 patch number: #18, 22-nov-89 compilation: #38, 22-jun-90 I'd hate to have to ditch smail3 over this! -- Karl Denninger - AC Nielsen, Bannockburn IL (708) 317-3285 kdenning@nis.naitc.com "The most dangerous command on any computer is the carriage return."
