Hi folks! After a long time we have finally to get a real true Internet domain. As the administrator of our network with lots and lots of connected hosts and one gateway to the world, I would now like to set up our mail system in an optimal way. For this I need help. Our configuration: domain: .ap.sni.de the network: gateway ---> many many machines gateway has a hostname of it's own, as do the leaf machines. All machines are connected via TCP/IP (so SMTP is the mail protocol) and gateway exchanges mail with it's backbone (holder of the .sni.de domain) via a leased line also running SMTP. Now I don't want the hostname to appear in the From:, Reply-To: or whatever paths. Rather as each leaf-site is situated in one department, I would like the address to look like: user@dept.ap.sni.de The gateway should then take care of distribution to the appropriate site. Up til now, we have used a sendmail conf file, that simply forwarded mails who's path it didn't understand to the next backbone. This was provided by the backbone. All I had to do was set the hostname, so I never really bothered about what sendmail.cf did. Now we not only have sendmail connected machines, but many also use the /&%/(&%/(&% MMDF system found in SCO UNIX. Who can help me set up this net, so that I learn as much as possible from it myself. Starting from scratch wouldn't bother me. Thanks!
