[comp.binaries.apple2] Hopelessly out of Date?

kg19+@andrew.cmu.edu (Kurt A. Geisel) (04/12/89)

Hi! I grew up on the Apple II. However, in recent years I have been
playing with "big" things like IBMs, Amigas, and Mac IIs. Anyway, I
just dusted off the original Apple II+ w/64K and it still seems to be
working perfectly. I decided that I would try and get it as "up to
date" as it can be so MAYBE it could be doing something useful instead
of gathering dust. I tried grabbing some of the things here and have
been having trouble. Binscii seems to work OK, but it has a few
annoying bugs (like the fact that it will often not unpack a file
without giving any error message.) Also, it will apparently die if I
don't have the date set (which I must do manually, since I don't have
a clock.)

BLU2.28 (which I seem to need to unpack most everything else) won't
work at all. It breaks to monitor and not always at the same location.

Anyway, is it pretty much curtains for the Apple II+ or any of this
stuff supposed to work on it? What is the latest version of ProDos
which will work on the II+? (Could this be the problem?) Is there
any life left in this sucker?
