[comp.binaries.apple2] ftp and filenames

calumw@castle.ed.ac.uk (Calum A. Wilkie ) (05/25/91)

Wouldn't it be nice if filenames were useful on certain ftp sites...

 such as prgramname.gs.bsq <-- implies it's for a gs
whereas prgramname.bsq <-- any apple will do

I've just spent a little it of time transferring some files, only to
find that my meager //e won't cut it.

Just a thought, so that other people might not waste several hours.

btw, i notice that some filenames already include somesort of 'gs' to
denote computer type, needless to say I didn't download these.

thanks is advance to all those would be uploaders

Most ftp sites _should_ have their files sorted into directories.
That's how tybalt and wuarchives does it. You will probably see a bunch of
directories in the apple2 directory, one of them being GS. The rest of the
directories (Lang, Shell, Games, Util) are for the 8-bits.
