[comp.fonts] Is this really Article #1 in comp.fonts ?

tap tap tap pffttt testing 1-2-3 is this thing on ?

Okay.

It worked.

Here we are.

This, theoretically, is article #1 of comp fonts. I was going to
create the group myself after the vote passed on the reccomendation
on a backbone site admin, so this article would go out shortly after
the group creation message, but I've heard enough from Heiby for
several lifetimes; thus I waited for the "official" makegroup from
spaf.

Name of the group: comp.fonts vs comp.graphics.fonts vs comp.text.fonts
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are video fonts and there are hardcopy fonts.

Purpose of this group
---------------------

A single place for people interested in fonts, of all types, on
various machines to discuss fonts and font technology.

What is appropriate, what is not
--------------------------------

If it's about fonts, it's appropriate here.

Requests like "Does anybody have foofont for an Atari ST" are
appropriate if all attempts to find foofont for an Atari ST
have been exhausted. Perhaps somebody here has it for another
machine and sombody else has a conversion program that takes
what you have and converts it into what you want.

Posting fonts here, as a general rule, probably isnt appropriate.
There are of course, exceptions, and the decision is yours. A better
way to handle it would be to post it to some other group on USENET
or another network, and mention it here.

Crossposting
------------

Inevitable. Keep it in good taste.

Kudos
-----

Once again a big heartfelt thanks, and hats off to everybody who
help make this group possible.

A special thanks to Andy Tannenbaum who expressed so eloquently
and better than I, the reasons why this group should be created;
it's one thing to have a hare brained idea. It's something else
when somebody who wrote your college textbooks, and whose work
you have genuinly admired for years backs you up. Thanks again
Andy, wherever you are.

And of course thanks to whoever posted the argument about this groups
creation to alt.flame - that secured one extra vote. greg Nowak. Who else.

Thanks people.
