I seem to have been misinterpreted. When I stated my goal for a font standard, it was not some academic be all end all to represent fonts for any device, rather it was an attemp to prevent the proliferation of some large number of bit mapped font conversion programs, to wit: Mac --> Amiga Amiga --> Apollo Apollo --> Sun Sun --> whatever and so on To give a concrete example, i got a call from a nice lady who said to me "BOCKLIN ! YOU HAVE BOCKLIN ?!?" Yeah, I do. For an Amiga. She has a Mac. I have zero motivation to write an Amiga --> Mac font conversion program, but I might be persuaded to hack out an Amiga to intermediate standard, assuming she could then convert this standard to Mac format. Ie. what I had in mind was a way of exchanging bit mapped fonts on popular computers. Of course outlines are a better way to go in mist cases, but I'm not there yet, there is still work at hand with these lil bit mapped buggers. Also, to clear up another misinterpretation, when I statet I would be intrested in compiling a canonical list of fonts available for various computers i didnt mean mail me for the damn list ! It doesnt exist ! If you have a whole bunch of fonts for an Apollo, Mac, whatever, if you could mail me a directory or list, preferably with an explanation of what each face is (Ie. "Sigmaxx90 for an apollo, styled after ITC Century Schoolbook (tm)) then perhaps we would be able to compile a list that might look like this: Name Styled after Where to get it Amiga Apollo Atari IBM Mac Sun ..... ---- ------ ----- ----- -- --- -- ----- ------ ----- --- --- --- Sigma Helvetica Xiphias X X X -- ............................................................................... richard@gryphon.CTS.COM rutgers!marque!gryphon!richard
