[this is a repost of a message that didn't make it out correctly the first time - mjm] We have a Mac II, MacDraw, Cricket Draw, Adobe Illustrater 88, etc. and several postscript printers (DEC lps40, DEC ln03, LW II NTX (on order)) but we don't have fonts for the Mac that are on the postscript printers. Where/How do we get the Mac to know about these fonts (particularly the Illus 88 software) thanks, --michael --------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael McGuffey Marshall University Computer Center BITNET: mcguffey@muvms1 Huntington WV 25755-5320 Internet: mcguffey%muvms3@wvnvms.wvnet.edu

I nice little program that produces large versions of PostScript fonts. FS uses the printer to render the characters at apropriate size, between 4-127 points. FS is kind of stupid, you must have a Mac screen font allready. You can take any font and rename it (with ResEdit) to be the name you want, It will work if the fonts have the same set of -Roman/-Bold.. styles. The fonts produced at small sizes (< 20 pt) will not look very good. Remember that a 20 point screen font is 20 pixels high, ie a laserfont at 20*72/300 = 5 points. But you can use them at least. And if you work with Illustrator you will usally want 72 point or larger characters, and they look great. To go from the usual 24 points to 96 is a kick. I wish I had Display PostScript... I have only used FS (a beta release) for a few samples. It seems as if Illustrator have some problem with large fonts, the character width isn't handled properly. But its better then nothing. Which you get if you use really large fonts (>120?). A bug in Illustrator? Or in FS? Andreas
