[comp.fonts] Typeface help needed

oheare@gandalf.UUCP (David O'Heare) (10/07/89)

If this has been done to death recently (I have this awful
feeling that it has), would somebody please mail me a summary? I'm
looking for help.

I am a technical writer, using WordPerfect 5.0 and Ventura
Publisher 2.0 on a PC-AT compatible, for output to a NEC LC-890
PostScript printer. I'm having problems importing text files that
include extended characters into Ventura. Ventura simply drops the
characters.
What I am trying to do is show illustrations of terminal screens,
some of which include windows with borders around them. The borders
are no problem within WordPerfect, or as text files, or whatever.
However, when I bring the files into Ventura, the line drawing
characters disappear. Xerox Product Support tells me that that's the
way it works.
I believe that what I need is a Ventura-and-PostScript compatible
monospaced typeface that has box drawing characters instead of the
international characters. Can anybody help me find one?
I realize I could draw the boxes in Ventura. The problem with
that is that there will be many screens to illustrate, and I'd rather
not draw these lines three or four hundred times. The screens are all
different, so I can't simply produce one and re-use it.
As always, your help is appreciated. I'll summarize any responses
I receive, if anyboody cares.

Please email to oheare@gandalf.UCP, or gandalf!oheare. Failing
that, a phone call to me at (613) 723 6500 extension 8407 will always
work. Thanks.

When you have postscript, you have everything! You can use the ability
of Ventura and Word-Perfect to read Encapsulated Postscript format. Just
grab the screen into an encapsulated postscript file using something like
SCRtoPS, and then import this file into WP or VP, scale it, translate it
to your heart's content and print it out.

SCRtoPS is available from Offe Enterprises, 1163 E. Ogden Avenue, #705-131,
Naperville, IL 60563 (312)-357-6679. Roughly forty bucks.
Works on an Apple Laserwriter, you get box characters and the rest
of the junk. Dunno about the NEC-LC890, should work.
