Does anyone have, or know where to get, bitmap versions of Adobe fonts (in particular Courier, Courier-Bold, Times-Roman, Times-Italic, Times-BoldItalic) in any of the formats understood by TeX (.pxl, .gf, .pk)? Now that our users are able, thanks to Rokicki's dvips, to use Adobe fonts in TeX documents and have them print correctly, they've started complaining about the fact that they can't preview these documents using xdvi, our preferred previewer. Bitmaps of the fonts (in some sizes) are available in various formats (Macintosh screen fonts, .bdf files from the X distribution), but xdvi only understands the TeX formats, and I don't have time to write a converter. The nicest solution would be a PostScript based dvi previewer, but at present we're not using an X server that has Display PostScript. Any ideas? Harry Bochner bochner@endor.harvard.edu

Try the AP-TEX fonts from Kinch Computer Company (501 S. Meadow Street, Ithaca, NY 14850, (607)273-0484.) These are exclusively 300 dpi .pk fonts, so they'll only work if your previewer can derive xxx dpi screen fonts from the 300 dpi versions, but I believe they're open to requests for fonts generated at other resolutions, if enough people want them.
