[comp.fonts] Creating a font for an xterm window

joem@meaddata.com (Joe Mehrle) (10/31/90)

I have been trying with no success to create my own font which will
basically display ASCII unprintable characters with their hexidecimal
value, for example I want to represent the unprintable hex character
"80" in the space that a normal single character would take with a bar
above it. I have been able to easily do this in sunview using
fontedit, but I can't do it in x with an xterm window. There is a
program I got a hold of called xfed which allows you to edit a bdf
font, but unprintables are not editable. I think I may be edit the
source to correct this, but for some reason I am still having problems
using bdftosnf. I change my fonts path correctly and I get it to run
and create a snf font, but I get an X error when I try to bring up the
xterm with the font I have created. Does anyone have any idea what I
might be doing wrong ? Are there any editors in X, like sunview that
will allow me to do what I want ? Can I directly edit a bdf file and
if so how do I get an xterm to correctly pull up this new font ? Does
anyone have the font I'm looking for already created ? ANy help would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
