Hi Brad (and other netters)... turns out I got quite a few questions concerning the Mac archives and, more specifically, how to FTP the fonts from our (unusual, to say the least) operating system. First, to recap.. to FTP, just type in "ftp 35.1.1.43" or "open 35.1.1.43", which will establish a connection to the U-M mainframe. Log in anonymously, and then type in "cd PC2:". Here's where most of the confusion sets in.. our operating system has NO subdirectories. When you type in "cd PC2:", you're switching to the Macintosh archive account. If you type in "ls" (for list files) at this point, it'll take about 5 minutes, but you'll see a (very very very very long) list of files with names like "FO/MORTBATS", "FO/AUTHOR", "INIT/BAD"... Categories "FO/" and "INIT/" are actually a part of the file names, not subdirectories. So to retrieve the font Mortbats, type in "get fo/mortbats mortbats.sit.hqx". Always drop the "fo/" or "init/" in the second name of the command, as you probably don't have a fo/ or init/ directory on your account, otherwise the FTP transfer will snarf. I hope.. err.. I made it clear. There's quite a number of fonts on-line that you won't find anywhere else, so I hope you check our the archive soon. And drop me a message.. I do reply, actually. Besides my ".signature", you can send mail to "userw72n@um.cc.umich.edu" or "macintosh_public_domain@um.cc.umich.edu". Thanks, y'all! -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Dautermann - U-M Ann Arbor, Dearborn and the World Mike @ ccs.cc.umich.edu
