[comp.fonts] POSTNET barcodes

leete@mac.cc.macalstr.edu (04/23/91)

I am looking for a program to make barcodes for printing on mailing envelopes.
The US Post Office has their own type of barcoding called POSTNET. Ordinarily
you have to go to a service bureau for a lot of dollars to print POSTNET
barcodes. I am looking for a program to print barcodes using this system.
I have found programs to print almost every type of barcode, but none
does POSTNET.

I don't imagine to find this capability as a font, but this seemed like the
closest thing to what I'm looking for. I'm looking for programs in MS/PC-DOS.

Thanks for your help. -Jennie Leete, Macalester College

Make-env.tex, posted to comp.text.tex in February, does just what you want,
so long as you have TeX on your PC. Works fine, though a roundabout solution.

I don't know anything about a "POSTNET" font but you can send your
Adress & Zip(+4) code to

	USPS
	PO Box 7897
	Mt. Prospect, Il 60056-9821

and they will send you a film with the Barcode for your address.

Specify FIM/A for a reply letter or FIM/B for a "Postage paid
by Adressee" type letter.

I have written TeX macros that generate POSTNET code (which is a representation
of the ZIP code on the bottom of the envelope) and FIM code (the one on top).
It was posted to comp.text.tex.

(It works fine under MS-DOS with emTeX.)
